Part Time Lifeguard

The Town of Highlands will be hiring part time life guard positions to add to our team for the 2025-2026 season. We are seeking certified lifeguards to maintain a safe swimming environment by actively monitoring pool activity, enforcing rules, and responding promptly to emergencies. Flexible hours available, ideal for students or those seeking a summer job. Must possess current Red Cross CPR and Lifeguard Certification or be willing to take the training to receive certifications. (Training will be provided) Must be age 15+

Starting Hourly $15.00

Sanitation Department

Sanitation Superintendent

The Town of Highlands is currently looking to hire a full-time Sanitation Superintendent for the Public Works Department for the Town of Highlands.

This position supervises and participates in the work of crews engaged in skilled equipment operation for the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste from residents and businesses.

Responsibilities include setting up routes to balance workloads; making work assignments; supervising and participating in residential waste collection; operating sanitation equipment; ensuring work completions; purchasing equipment and supplies; engaging with citizens on problems and service needs; overseeing maintenance of sanitation trucks and equipment; and related activities.

Supervisory work involves training employees, explaining work duties and equipment operation, approving leave., ordering and maintaining parts, ensuring safe work practices, overseeing the proper maintenance and repair of equipment, and ensuring completions of work.

Full Time position with access to all Town of Highlands benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options. Automatic enrollment into the North Carolina Pension Fund. Voluntary 401k and 457 Plan available.

Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

Graduation from high school and considerable experience in the operation of heavy motorized equipment and vehicles, preferably in the collection of solid waste materials; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

All applicants must have possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License.

Full Time- 40 Hours Week,

Hiring Salary: $48,040.00 - $76,863.0

Sanitation Department

Sanitation Equipment Operator

We are seeking a Sanitation Equipment Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating sanitation equipment associated with the collection of solid waste on an assigned route.

Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy motorized sanitation equipment.

- Operate and maintain equipment in a safe and efficient manner (compactor truck, side arm lift, hydraulic lift, dumpster packer trucks etc.) May operator loaders and back hoe as needed.

Working knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in the loading and unloading of garbage, recycling, and refuse along assigned routes.

Ability to communicate effectively with the public to respond to inquiries about collection schedules and waste collection requirements.

Commercial Driver's License required (willing to acquire if do not currently have.)

Starting wage of $17.24 per hour with benefits included:
