Police Officer
The Town of Highlands is accepting applications for a Police Officer at the Highlands Police Department. Applicants must have a high school diploma/GED or greater, must have completed basic law enforcement training and possess a BLET certificate, a NC driver’s license, and have completed requirements established by the NC Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers. Must be able to work a rotating shift, this includes days, nights and weekends. Salary based on experience up to $56,076.80 annually and employee benefits including 100% paid employee health insurance, 100% paid employee dental insurance and paid holidays to name a few. Sanitation Equipment Operator
Under general supervision operates a variety of light to medium equipment, and operates compactor trucks in the collection of refuse and emptying of dumpsters; performs related work as required. Possession of a valid commercial driver’s license is preferred with starting wage of $16.46 per hour with benefits – insurance, retirement and holiday pay to name a few. Water and Sewer Maintenance Worker
The Town of Highlands is accepting applications for a Water and Sewer Maintenance Worker. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and ideally one to two years’ experience in the installation and maintenance of water and sewer lines, street maintenance and grounds facilities is desired. This position is responsible for performing unskilled to semi-skilled manual labor work in the installation and maintenance of water and sewer lines, street repairs and other municipal structures, facilities and grounds. This position reports to the Water and Sewer Superintendent. The starting pay is $17.27 per hour plus benefits. This position is responsible for performing unskilled to skilled maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilities, pools and grounds as well as the cleaning of town facilities and grounds. This position reports to the Parks and Recreation Director. The starting pay is $16.46 per hour plus benefits. Firefighter
The Town of Highlands is accepting applications for a Firefighter. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED along with a Level I and II Firefighter Certification as well as a First Responder with the ability to obtain Emergency Medical Responder status within 12 months of hire. This position performs responsible fire suppression and incident response activities including operating fire apparatus and participating in firefighting, hazardous materials response and technical rescue.
